About Terre des hommes (Tdh):

Terre des Hommes has been working in Bangladesh since 1974, implementing integrated humanitarian and development programmes across Cox's Bazar, Kurigram, and Dhaka. The country programme focuses on Health, Access to Justice (including social cohesion and conflict resolution), and Migration, supported by cross-cutting expertise in Child Protection and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). Tdh's interventions address both humanitarian needs and long-term development priorities, with a strong emphasis on resilience, localization, and systems strengthening. Following the large-scale influx of more than 800,000 Rohingya refugees into Bangladesh since August 2017, Tdh significantly expanded its humanitarian response in Cox's Bazar to provide integrated and life-saving assistance to Rohingya refugees and vulnerable host communities. The response includes comprehensive interventions in Health, WASH, Child Protection, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), and Social Cohesion, delivered in close coordination with government authorities, UN agencies, and humanitarian partners.

Building on its extensive humanitarian experience, Tdh is advancing an integrated Humanitarian–Development–Peace (HDP) Nexus approach that links emergency response with longer-term recovery and resilience. The organization is committed to strengthening local capacities, generating evidence and learning, promoting localization, and leveraging programme experience to inform policy dialogue, advocacy, and sustainable programme expansion across Bangladesh.

Context:

Tdh has been present and active in Bangladesh since 1974 and focuses its work on Migration, tackling child labour, health, child protection, WASH, Access to Justice and humanitarian aid. We are currently working in Dhaka, Cox’s Bazar, Ukhiya, Teknaf, Kurigram and Satkhira.

Description of the position:

Under the direct management of the WASH Team Leader, ensuring the effective implementation of the waste management activities according to implementation guidelines, standards and procedures in order to contribute to the Waste Mangement/Hygiene Promotion and delivery of qualitative waste management activities in the area of intervention.

Specific responsibilities:

• Ensure, at the field level, that assigned activities are implemented according to the program work plan and methodology validated by the WASH Team Leader and WASH Programme Manager.

• Support the line manager in the preparation of weekly, monthly and annual activity planning.

• Under the supervision of the WASH Team Leader, prepare weekly achievements report.

• Support the WASH Team Leader on daily workers/volunteers payment.

• Assist the WASH Team Leader in preparing of IEC/BCC Materials and monitor the distribution of IEC materials to be used at the community (refugees & host) level.

• Ensure the proper dissemination of WASH messages to the community at the grass-root level.

• Supervise/organize on a daily basis the implementation of program activities on the field and report to the line manager.

• Plan and conduct different community WASH meetings by using different promotional approaches/topics.

• Produces activity progress reports as per the preset reporting schedule and submits to the supervisor.

• Support and/or lead basic training, meeting/sessions and HH’s visit at the Field level.

• Monitor the achievements for assigned activities and report to the line manager.

• Ensure monitoring tools are used, filled and followed.

• Identify beneficiaries based on relevant selection criteria approved by the WASH Team Leader and WASH Programme Manager.

• Explain to the beneficiaries the planned waste management/HP activities like meeting/session, HH’s visit, distribution, camp and drain cleaning, waste management, health hazards, day observation etc.

• Participate in data collection and needs assessment at the field level.

• Plan and ensure the proper distribution of Non-Food Items, and will assist to WASH infrastructure team for the construction purpose (different types of hygiene kit, aqua tabs, handwashing device, communal garbage bin installation, disable and toilet construction etc.).

• Support the program to collect data during the KAP/baseline/midline/endline survey.

• Works closely with Waste Management Field Agent and volunteers towards efficient and effective implementation of the waste management activities which relates to HP.

• Participate in different types of training on WASH.

• Have and promote good behavior on the field.

Profile: We are looking for a Waste Management Assistant with practical experience of Waste Managemet/HP activities

Education: MA/BA pass

Experience and Skills:

• Proven experience with (I)NGO in relief context (2 to 3 years)

• Experience of Waste Managemet/HP activities such as session/meeting conduction, HH’s visit, NFI distribution reporting etc.

• Ability to accomplish assigned tasks accurately and by established deadlines

• Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task

• Excellent organization and communication skills

• Professionalism and thoroughness, good capacity to work under pressure

Languages:

• Fluency in the local language

Salary: Monthly gross salary of BDT. 39,600/-
