About Terre des hommes (Tdh):

Terre des Hommes has been working in Bangladesh since 1974, implementing integrated humanitarian and development programmes across Cox's Bazar, Kurigram, and Dhaka. The country programme focuses on Health, Access to Justice (including social cohesion and conflict resolution), and Migration, supported by cross-cutting expertise in Child Protection and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). Tdh's interventions address both humanitarian needs and long-term development priorities, with a strong emphasis on resilience, localization, and systems strengthening. Following the large-scale influx of more than 800,000 Rohingya refugees into Bangladesh since August 2017, Tdh significantly expanded its humanitarian response in Cox's Bazar to provide integrated and life-saving assistance to Rohingya refugees and vulnerable host communities. The response includes comprehensive interventions in Health, WASH, Child Protection, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), and Social Cohesion, delivered in close coordination with government authorities, UN agencies, and humanitarian partners.

Building on its extensive humanitarian experience, Tdh is advancing an integrated Humanitarian–Development–Peace (HDP) Nexus approach that links emergency response with longer-term recovery and resilience. The organization is committed to strengthening local capacities, generating evidence and learning, promoting localization, and leveraging programme experience to inform policy dialogue, advocacy, and sustainable programme expansion across Bangladesh.

Context:

Tdh has been present and active in Bangladesh since 1974 and focuses its work on Migration, tackling child labour, health, child protection, WASH, Access to Justice and humanitarian aid. We are currently working in Dhaka, Cox’s Bazar, Ukhiya, Teknaf, Kurigram and Satkhira.

Description of the position:

The Desalination Plant Agent will support the Desalination Plant Operator in ensuring a reliable water supply, efficient planning, and high-quality implementation of WASH projects. The agent will be responsible for overseeing water production, monitoring and maintaining water treatment processes, and ensuring water quality at project locations in the Teknaf Base, in coordination with the Desalination Plant Operator.

Specific responsibilities:

Main Responsibilities:

• Assist the Desalination Plant Operator in daily operations and maintenance of the desalination plant.

• Ensure the efficient production of potable water and manage the treatment processes to meet quality standards.

• Regularly monitor the performance of the desalination plant, including checking equipment and systems for optimal function.

• Conduct water quality tests and ensure that the water meets safety and quality standards.

• Work closely with the Desalination Plant Operator to coordinate activities and address any issues related to water supply.

• Maintain accurate records of water production, treatment processes, and quality reports.

• Report any abnormalities or issues promptly.

• Ensure that all operations comply with relevant regulations and safety standards.

• Provide support and training to other staff members/volunteers/water user groups as needed.

Technical Support and Facilitation:

• Preparation of water quality testing plan at the direction of the plant operator: Develop a plan for water quality testing activities, ensuring the availability of necessary testing materials and equipment. Align the plan with project and sector guidance.

• Needs Assessment and Orientation: Collaborate with the supervisor to assess the needs of the

• Water treatment plant. Organize orientation and training sessions for the WASH team members involved in water quality management.

Planning and Reporting:

• Work Plan Preparation: Develop an effective work plan for water quality testing, plant operations, and maintenance. Prioritize tasks based on urgency and project requirements.

• Reporting to Plant Operator: Regularly report implementation progress to line supervisor through oral and hard copy and input KoBo regularly. Provide weekly, monthly, and quarterly updates on the status of water quality activities.

• Plant Materials Stock Register: Assist supervisor in maintaining an accurate stock register and inventory for plant materials, and coordinate with team members and concerned departments.

• Water Quality Reporting: Prepare and submit regular water quality reports as per established reporting schedules. Submit additional reports as needed based on specific project requirements.

Security and Child Safety:

• Supplier Safety Responsibility: Ensure that suppliers prioritize the safety of their employees and the community, with special attention to the safety of children.

• Staff Visibility and Safety: Ensure staff members have appropriate visibility and are equipped with necessary safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) during fieldwork.

Profile: We are looking for a Desalination Plant Agent with practical experience

Education: · BA/HSC pass

Experience and Skills:

• 2-3 years of relevant experience (Experience of water quality testing)

• Good understanding on Rohingya camp

• Good capacity to work under pressure

• Strong facilitation, analytical, negotiation, coordination, communications, and management skills

• Sound knowledge on water quality testing procedure

• Survey, Data Collection, Test Knowledge

• Hard working, Sincere, responsible, and committed

• Planning, Trainer, Supervision, reporting skills

• Intelligent, Promptness

• Ability and willingness to work in team

• Experience of water quality testing protocol

• Experience of working in multi-cultural environments an advantage

Salary: Monthly gross salary of BDT. 27,900/-
